Former chicago bears’ coach’s son charged with dui

Mistakes made while under the influence of alcohol can have ongoing effects on a person’s life. A momentary aberration in decision making can easily lead to drivers facing a DUI charge. The consequences of a DUI charge are often severe, even if it is the first time a driver has faced such a charge.

As readers in Chicago may be aware, one of former Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka’s sons was arrested in the early hours one October morning. According to a local news website, the son was apparently charged with possession of a controlled substance and aggravated DUI. Police reportedly found a bottle of pills in his car containing hydrocodone, which is a prescription-only opiate. He was also allegedly driving with no insurance on a suspended license.

Ditka’s son allegedly refused breath and blood tests. It’s unknown what his blood alcohol content was at the time of his arrest.

This is not the first DUI charge faced by this individual; he faced similar charges in Sept. 2011 for reportedly having double the legal limit of alcohol in his system. However, this result was placed in doubt because the chewing of tobacco prior to the blood alcohol content test may have resulted in an artificially higher number. He had also been charged twice before this, but was found not guilty in both cases. This is important to remember when considering whether he was arrested because of his family’s name.

The penalties for a proven DUI charge can be harsh and have long-lasting effects on a driver’s personal and professional life. Those finding themselves charged with a DUI should be fully aware of all of their legal rights and alternatives. Deciding on the most appropriate defense option can help drivers protect their driving record and keep their licenses where appropriate.
