According to The New American – the United States government had a secret agreement with the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel. In exchange for information and assistance into competing criminal syndicates, the cartel was allowed to operate with impunity. The article also states that the DEA, ICE and the U.S. Justice Department all worked secretly with Mexican drug lords. This scenario would certainly seem to be one sided.  Cartel leaders would provide U.S. officials with information on their competitors and at the same time eliminate their competition. These crime bosses could then do “business as usual” with less competition and fear of prosecution.
